One of the areas where current physics gets rather weird is what the theory of relativity and that of quantum mechanics have to say about the nature of consciousness. It would seem that physical reality at its most fundamental level is based upon the orderly arrangement of information, am and are not. There is an entire logic symmetry based upon 'being' which will be discussed in more detail in the section devoted to the I-Ching in our study of paranormal phenomena. This logic symmetry is usually called game theory. This is where virtual chaos believes its fundamental philosophy: Win-Win Works, is proved this mathematically.

The classic physics experiment with regard to the topic of consciousness is the double slit experiment. The readers digest version asks the question: If a photon has the opportunity to take one of two paths, how does it decide which to take? The unusual answer quantum mechanics gives is that if you leave it alone it will go down both paths as a wave, but if you question it the photon will give you the single path of a ballistic particle.

How can the photon take multiple paths? It does so by not really existing in the first place. This is a thing that physicists call Superposition. What that means is that the photon exists every way it possibly can and only when it is made to act like a particle does it assume a fixed value, well, sort of. Turns out that when this wave that isn't really there, is forced to act as a particle it still cannot be pinned down precisely. The more one knows about its exact location the less one CAN know about its speed and heading. If one reaches the point of knowing the exact location, one has zero knowledge about speed or direction. Time has been frozen like a snapshot of a baseball just hanging there in the air. The more one knows about space the less information there is to know about time. This is called uncertainty. It shows how the IS and IS NOT nature of space and time are opposites of each other. Virtual chaos accounts for this with the simple notion that space and time are inversely proportionate, much the same way matter and energy or gravity and inertia are related.

Getting back to consciousness, quantum mechanics would have us believe that it is the knowing or not knowing that determines the decision that the photon makes. When the path is not known, the virtual photon that went down the first path interferes with the virtual photon which went down the second and produces a wave pattern. Just the threat of finding out seems to be enough to force the photon to make a decision. So the question now becomes who needs to know? An observation at the level of the whole, demands that a god exist to make it, the same way an observation at my level demands that I exist to make it.

When the self is the one who knows, then it is the knowledge gained by the self that determines the photons path. In this way the will and expectations of the observer are projected into the physical world and shape the possible paths the photon might have taken. The anecdotal evidence is that by and large, one will see what one expects to see. They will also continue to see it until someone tells them different and they look again. Can this projection of will really have an actual physical effect? Interestingly enough both quantum mechanics and relativity say the answer is yes, although they are both at a loss as to explain how.

In experiments almost the inverse of the double slit one, pairs of photons separated in space are linked by a point in time. They start in the same place an fly off in opposite directions. Quantum mechanics says that both are undefined until observation. What they have found is that an observation of one of the photons INSTANTLY defines the characteristics of the other, across space and faster than the speed of light.

Virtual chaos provides an explanation for this in the way energy is exchanged between its three past and three future dimensions, logarithmically. The waves of temporal density in these six hidden dimensions flow from the scale of the very small to the scale of the very large, from future to past, this is described by the various oracles, or from the scale of the enormously large to the itty bitty, past to future, this is depicted by astrology. In this way these forces interact with everything on a given scale at the same time, everywhere at once. Now.

The only kind of time that is used by virtual chaos is a "NOW" that flows both into the past and into the future. If you like, it can also be pictured as being the place where your future potential intersects your past potential. The self and the other are united in NOW, as are a host of other metaphors separated only by context.

The ten dimensional model of virtual chaos has a three dimensional past and a three dimensional future that meet in a four dimensional crossover area we like to call the here and now, local standard space-time, as it were. The three dimensions of the past as well as the three dimensions of the future are invisible to naked observation however their effects can be discerned if one knows where to look and in what context to interpret what one sees.

Just as in the field of physics, much of psychic activity is related to the forecasting of future events. The methods this employs are rather close to those used in anthropology. As much information as is possible is gathered and combined into a picture corroborated by, evidence that should be complimentary, into a most likely case scenario. This picture can be modified at any point. For the anthropologist, by a new discovery or theory, for the subject of the reading, by taking action in the appropriate affair.

Although the past is gone, its effects and residue surround us. Likewise the future is not yet here, but one is able to see its shape emerging. The intangible three dimensional past and the intangible three dimensional future meet, and interact, in our tangible four dimensional reality. These are the six hidden dimensions in a ten dimensional universe, and it places every observer right smack dab in the center of their own personal reality, first person, singular, present tense. To any conscious entity, reality consists of two things, the self and everything else. In addition, everything else starts at the self and goes off in opposite directions basically forever. Right and left, up and down, in and out, past and future.

This perspective of Now as the unification of opposites or inverses of a single larger whole is the image virtual chaos expresses in the Zen. In psychological terms it is consciousness as the juncture of the unconscious, and the super-conscious. In physics it is the duality of mater and energy joined by the uncertainty principle. In religious texts it is the union of the different aspects of divinity into a single spiritual entity. In virtual chaos it is this conscious awareness of the self both inwardly and outwardly that is the energy of creation. The perspective of now is the first and most basic level of consciousness.

One of the things that every religious discipline, science, psychology and even culture has employed, is the exploration of altered states of consciousness. Are these altered states valid views of reality? Can transcendental spiritual states, ecstasy, lucid dreaming, hypnosis, trances and visions be considered true views of reality or must they be considered distorted views of an absolute four dimensional physical reality? Virtual chaos would contend that these altered states of consciousness, are in fact valid views, because belief or disbelief either confirms or precludes the existence of the whatnot in the observers personal reality.

Consciousness it would seem, creates its reality through belief in a standard and an expectation that that standard will suffice. The self is the standard against which all else is judged and it is the goal of physics, psychology, religion, well everything, to reconcile the self to the everything else. To understand the cosmos and know completely ones place in it is surely to be at one with the whole of creation.

The model within virtual chaos would suggest that consciousness is based upon a few very basic logical configurations which grow exponentially more complex. It would also suggest that our ability to control reality, through our perception of it and our actions towards it, is in fact a communal undertaking. Just as an ad campaign would contribute ones projected image to the collective consciousness of the masses, so too does ones attitudes, prejudices, and negative expectations contribute to the collective unconscious. If this is not recognized, the prejudices and negative expectations of the not self, will be adopted as the standards of the self, and this negative feedback cycle is perpetuated.

In virtual chaos the perspective of now combines with the perception of self, to create ones personal reality. These personal realities overlap each other and interfere in much the same way light does. Consciousness it would seem, is the perception of an interference pattern, by the interference pattern itself.
